The second day of Camp Democracy was sponsored by Progressive Democrats of America and was marked by visits to the camp by several members of Congress. One of those members was Congressman Jim McGovern, who has proposed legislation to cut off funding for the war in Iraq. Geoffrey Millard spoke with him and other members of Congress about that legislation.

Veterans, Military Families Launch Camp Democracy

Veterans and military family members, many of whom came directly from Camp Casey, set up camp on the mall in Washington, DC. "Camp Democracy," a 17-day event, will focus not only on ending the war but also on righting injustices here at home and on holding the Bush administration and Congress accountable.

In December of 2005 and January of 2006, a war crimes tribunal in New York City heard testimony from dozens of witnesses. Jurors included 29-year military veteran Ann Wright and former CIA analyst Ray McGovern. They announced their verdict in a press conference on Wednesday, September 13th at Camp Democracy. They then hand-delivered the verdicts to the White House and the Justice Department.
